Is rDNS good or bad?

I have a dedicated server and when I do "nslookup mydomain" it doesn't spit back my domain name. I could easily have the hosting company set this up. However, I'm not sure if it is beneficial at all.Pros -> Maybe search engines find you more legitimate.Cons -> Maybe it helps hackers find you.Reverse DNS was what I meant. I already have DNS for the server and domain. SSL is probably enough incentive to set it up.

DNS is not good or bad - you'll have to use it anyway if you want to reach your server by name.Unless you yourself are the hosting company or use very volatile/large naming system, there are very few reasons to run DNS server on the same machine where you host your site(s) - if your server goes down, DNS will go down with it. Have the hosting company or registrar handle DNS if possible - you'll have less headache for yourself. If your server can't do 'nslookup mydomain' on valid domain, it simply means your DNS client is misconfigured. I didn't quite understand the part about hackers and search engines. Both will find you regardless of where you host your DNS. If you're asking about Reverse DNS - i.e. looking up host name from IP address - again - disabling it won't give you much advantages, and will create problems if you plan to use SSL. Good luck.

rDNS is important to have for your mailserver, some mailservers will refuse your emails without it.
